Hound Association of Scotland Championship Show 2014 Critique

I was honoured to be asked to judge Deerhounds in their native country and would like to thank the committee for their hospitality.  My two young stewards did a valiant job in the wind keeping all their papers together and managing the ring very well.
Puppy Dog:  1st and BPIB Foy’s Dorrator Franklin. Stood alone but a worthy winner.  Well grown nine months old with much promise.  Good head and expression with dark eye and correct bite.  Good length of neck, nice front assembly.  Good bladed bone down to well knuckled feet. Well ribbed back with strong quarters. Moved freely long stride.
Junior Dog:  lst Taylor’s Kilbourne Boogaloo To Ormanstar. At twelve and a half months only just out of puppy but maturing well.  Masculine head with dark eye and neat ears.  Good reach of neck into well angulated shoulder. Well ribbed back with good topline. Well bent stifle with good angulation to hind quarters.  Moved out well.  2nd McKinnon’s Moireach Osprey of Fingon.  Well proportioned head with pleasing expression, dark eye, good bite. Strong neck of good length.  Good depth of brisket and tuck-up.  Correct topline with broad second thigh. Profile movement good with long stride.  3rd Cunningham’s Teviotdale Banner Blue.
Post-Graduate Dog:  lst MacBean’s Killoter Ruaig.  Outstanding dog of lovely proportions and breed type.  Masculine head with dark eye, strong underjaw and neat ears.  Good length and strength of neck into well laid shoulder, deep brisket, correct topline and strong quarters.  Strong bladed bone down to good feet.  Harsh coat well presented. Moved true with drive.  Dog CC and I shall watch his future with great interest.  2nd Sharp’s Rosslyn Qonnor Good head with dark eye and correct bite.  Nice length and strength of neck into good shoulder. Good spring of rib and tuck-up, strong loin.  Moved out well.   3rd Constantine’s Gentiehun Ayres Rock of Kaleginy.
Limit Dog:  lst Milne & Andrews’ Islay’s Iarla To Leoch.  Well constructed dog with good head proportions, strong bite and dark eye.  Well –laid shoulder with good front assembly.  Broad bladed bone. Good feet.  Strong loin and quarters. A little lacking in coat but what there was was good and harsh. Won on his correct movement.  2nd Hogan’s Breesfalt Jasper.  Very close up to winner with good outline, nice head and expression.  Nice length of neck into good shoulder with correct topline.  Well bent stifle, strong quarters.
Open Dog:  A really lovely class with some super dogs. 1st Peach’s Kilbourne Nico.  Lovely quality dog of excellent breed type who moved with freedom and drive.  Super head with good bite, dark eye and neat ears.  Deep brisket and good tuck-up.  Good front assembly, strong bladed bone down to well knuckled feet. Strong loin and nice sweep of quarters. Moved out with long free stride.  Res Dog CC.   2nd Hawkin’s Kwaricott Corelli.  Lovely head with dark eye.  Good reach of neck into well-laid shoulder.  Well-spring ribs with deep brisket.  Good bend of stifle and length of second thigh.  Moved well and pushed winner hard.  3rd Taylor & Peach’s Earl Grey Von Der Oelmule.

Puppy Bitch.  1st Lindsay’s Celticmoon Shadow Magic.  Nice type of puppy but only just six months old and suitably immature.  She thoroughly enjoyed her day out.  Feminine head with lovely dark eye and correct bite.  Neat ears and good length of neck.  Good harsh coat.  Long, strong forelegs with well-knuckled feet.  Profile movement good.
Junior Bitch.   No entries
Post Graduate Bitch:  lst Ellse’s Kilbourne Unity.  Very attractive feminine bitch who presented a very nice outline and moved with freedom and drive.  Good head proportions.  Good length and strength of neck.  Deep brisket, well sprung ribs.  Well-muscled second thigh.  Harsh coat.  2nd MacBean’s Killoeter Ralia.  Good breed type.  Nice head with dark eye, good neck into well laid shoulder.  Well-ribbed back with good tuck-up. Strong quarters with good second thigh. Moved true but somewhat reluctantly so had to give way to winner.  3rd Foote & Crossan’s Fintralgor Red Red Rose.
Limit Bitch:  lst Constantine’s Gentiehun Adelaide of Kaleginy.  Pleasing head and reach of neck.  Good depth of brisket and tuck-up.  Correct topline and nice sweep of hindquarters. A pleasing overall picture.  Moved with good long free stride.  2nd Smart’s Kessoch Marsco of Greystiel.  Very close up to winner and many of the same comments apply.  Lovely bitch of excellent breed type.  Very feminine head with good neck and layback of shoulder, strong straight forelegs down to well-knuckled feet. Lovely profile movement.  3rd Foy’s Stranwith Skirza.
Open Bitch:  What a lovely class of bitches!  Lst Morton & Morgan’s Ch Cotherstone Duchenne.  A outstanding bitch of quality. Super head with dark eye. Long, strong neck into excellent lay-back of shoulder.  Correct topline with good ribbing and tuck-up, deep brisket, strong loin with good width across hips.  Good sweep of quarters to low hocks.  Really came into her own on the move when she powered around the ring with long free stride.  Bitch CC and BOB.  2nd Taylor’s Ch Kilbourne Baccaratt To Ormanstar.  Unfortunate to meet above on such good form.  Well balanced quality bitch.  Good head into well-laid shoulder. Excellent front with broad bladed bone down to good feet. Nice depth of brisket and well ribbed back with good length and strength of loin.  Strong quarters with good muscle.  Moved out well.  Res Bitch CC.  3rd Gillie’s Dorrator Song For Drella.
